Children’s book author Patricia Paigerac prepares for next installment of series.
Laguna Niguel resident Patricia Paigerac has created a series of books that aim to teach young children the basics of five foreign languages.
The mother, who by day is a medical aesthetician and owner of a local day spa, has created “Chimmy5in1 Languages Alphabet Book” and “Chimmy5in1 Languages Number Book.”
They’re geared to teach toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary school kids the basics of English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.
Paigerac is also working on the next installment, “Chimmy Travel to Europe,” set to finish by the end of December.
Q. What is the concept behind your book?
A. My quest is to reach out to children and prepare them with an advantage in language fluency at a young age, in order to initiate a desire to keep learning cultural importance.
Q. How did you come up with the idea?
A. When I moved to the US in 1998, I didn’t have a work permit. I baby-sat a 15 months old baby and his mother asked me to only speak French to him. By the time he was 2 1/2 years old he could understand and speak French, English, Russian.
Q. Why did you choose the languages to teach in the book?
A. The languages I choose in the book are used all over the world. I was born in the French Island Martinique and raised in Paris, France. I lived in Luxembourg and in Rome, Italy and traveled others countries in Europe. I speak myself 3 languages fluently.
Q. What do you want children to take away from reading it?
A. I would like the children to be interested in others countries, others languages and culture at an early age. I am working on my third book “Chimmy Travel to Europe” to show children every country and capitol that are in Europe.
Q. What makes the book different from others in the same market?
A. My books uses a method of teaching children basic words and numbers in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish in one easy read with audio CDs for the pronunciation.
The character Chimmy is portrayed as a cartoon chimp that teaches the five languages in an entertaining and colorful manner that piques the child’s interest and delivers linguistics without the boring lessons.
Q. What’s the story behind the main character? Why pick a monkey?
A. I just love baby monkeys, they are adorable. I think most children loves monkeys.
